Things to Do

Although much of the talk surrounding Morzine centres on the fact that it’s a ski resort, a trip here doesn’t have to be all about skiing. There is much more to Morzine than meets the eye!

The mountains offer the opportunity to take part in many other sports, some more extreme than the other. In the summertime Mountain Hikes are popular, and take in the Roc D’Enfer, Dents Blanches, Point De Nyon and Chablais Mountain Ranges. Adventure Sports are on offer too, and range from Paragliding and White Water Rafting, to a zip wire experience called Fantasticable, and Canyoning (a mix of climbing and swimming). Mountain Biking routes are also dotted throughout the area, and there are competitive events sometimes too.

If you’re looking for something a little less daring to do during your time in Morzine, you could play tennis, venture to the Olympic size swimming pool and sports centre, head to the ice rink, or take a hot air balloon ride and enjoy the stunning mountain views.

Morzine also promotes a few ‘experiences’ you can indulge in, such as visiting the Serini Cimes Spa in the nearby Les Gets area, taking a cooking course at Restaurant Du Lac, or taking part in a Chocolate Workshop at the Chalet Du Chocolat.

Sampling traditional village life in the Haute Savoie area, is also a draw to tourists, and there are organised Heritage Walks available around the local villages. Shopping can also be an enjoyable experience in the Morzine area, with many shops stocking Savoie wine, cheese, pottery and mountain cured meat. Regular street markets, and a selection of mountain restaurants in the Morzine also offer you the chance to sample the local cuisine. A few notable eateries include Chez Flo in Avoriaz, Chez Nannon in Nyon, La Ferme Du Piste in Lunga, and The Vaffieu in Morzine.

Although there is quite a wide choice of things to see and do here, it can be hard to escape the lure of the snow and ice in winter. But, if you’ve had enough of skiing, and are looking for some alternatives read on. Stay in Morzine and you’ll have access to Ice Climbing and Snow Biking, or you could try your hand at Curling. There are also Walking Trails, Snowmobiling and Tobogganing sessions available to book, or for something more peaceful, why not take a sleigh ride?

As you can see, Morzine may be best known as a skiers paradise, but there is more to this former farming town than meets the eye. So whether you want to harness your spirit of adventure, or explore the local culture, Morzine is ready and waiting to welcome you.
