Big
Bear Lake, California, lies in a valley, unsurpassed in mountain
beauty, towering pines, sparkling streams, hidden lakes and
abundant wildlife. To millions of tourists who visit
this forested paradise every year, Big Bear Lake Cabins offer
world-class snowboarding, skiing, hiking, biking, boating,
fishing and entertainment for the whole family. In the winter,
the area is a favorite with young and old who come to play
in the snow - making snowmen, sledding and tobogganing are
just some of the fun things to do.
Big
Bear Lake Cabins are located in San Bernardino County about 100
miles northeast of Los Angeles (approximately 2 hours drive),
111 miles from Beverly Hills (approximately 2 hours minutes
drive), and 29 miles from San Bernadino (approximately 45 minute
drive).
Surrounded
by the San Bernardino National Forest, Big Bear Lake is a year-round
playground for winter and summer sports enthusiasts, as well as
a refuge for city dwellers to relax and enjoy the beauty of
the majestic pine trees that cover the landscape, the abundant
wildlife, the wildflowers in the spring, and the snow in the
winter.
In
1845, Benjamin Wilson was on an expedition to the Mohave River.
When he passed through the San Bernardino Mountain range he accidentally
discovered the mountain resort now called Big Bear. The
name was not always Big Bear though. It was originally
named Bear Valley. The name was changed to Big Bear Lake
because of the many grizzly that roamed the area.
